ABC BluesWay Records Stereo 1973 Promo
Born Arnold Dwight Moore, 8 November 1913, Topeka, Kansas, USA, d. 19 May 2004, Yazoo City, Mississippi, USA. At the age of 16, Moore went to Kansas City, where he sang with the bands of Bennie Moten, Tommy Douglas and Walter Barnes. Moore was one of the few survivors of the infamous "Natchez Rhythm Club Fire' tragedy that wiped out most of Barnes" orchestra. His first recordings were made for the small K.C. labels Chez Paree and Damon, and they caused enough of a stir to interest National Records. They brought Moore to Chicago and New York for four sessions in 1945-46 and were successful with Moore's "I Ain't Mad At You, Pretty Baby", "Did You Ever Love A Woman?" and "Christmas Blues". In 1947, Moore joined King Records and re-recorded his National hits along with some new material. By the end of that year he had introduced Wynonie Harris to King and had abandoned blues for a new career as the Reverend Moore. He became a gospel disc jockey and recorded gospel music in the early 50s for Chess Records/Aristocrat, Artists and Coral Records, and albums for Audio Fidelity (1960) and Bluesway (1973). However, Johnny Otis did manage to persuade Moore to recreate some of his blues for a Blues Spectrum album.
