Sire Records / Reprise Promo Copy "My Hand Over My Heart" was seen as a possible breakout single from Tenement Symphony, but in the end turned out to be a middling effort. It's not hard to hear why -- compared to the dramatic gallop of "Jacky" or the subtler charms of "The Days of Pearly Spencer," it has the trappings but lacks a memorable hook or killer punch. Even though it's a collaboration with the Grid (including Almond's past and future Soft Cell partner Dave Ball), something is missing just a little bit. Besides also including an extended "grit and glitter" mix that's actually a touch more successful than the single cut, two further efforts appear that are of more interest. "Money for Love," appearing here in a "fiddle mix" that more prominently features a fine distorted techno riff and descending organ part over a crisp synth rock groove, while Almond sings of the endless human activity in question. "Night and No Morning," meanwhile, has one last fine Billy McGee collaboration and orchestral arrangement to offer, creating a fine slow, cinematic groove that wouldn't be too out of place on Open All Night. ~ Ned Raggett, All Music Guide Side 1. 1.
