Herbie Mann & Joao Gilberto "Recorded in Rio de Janeiro on original Atlantic 8105. This album is a classic of the jazz/bossa nova golden period. Same as Do the Bossa Nova, it was recorded in Rio de Janeiro with Brazilian artists. It included João Gilberto - who Miles Davis said "would sound good reading a newspaper" - the guitarist Baden Powell and Tom Jobim himself, author of several songs in the album and responsible for most of the wonderful arrangements, some piano playing and the vocal in One Note Samba. In two instrumental tracks Mann and Powell are alone in marvelous duets: listen how in Consolação the flute soars above the delicate phrasing of the guitar in a haunting effect! By Oto A. Maia 1.
