Henry Mancini - The Best Of Mancini
[LSP 2693]

RCA Victor Stereo 1965

This album was released on vinyl when I was a freshman in high school - 1965!

The same cuts and, presumably, the same recordings. I wore the spots off this record over forty years ago, and here it is.

Mancini first came to fame with his recording of the "Theme from Peter Gunn." Conrary to what's said here by another reviewer, both Peter Gunn and Mr. Lucky were TV shows - neither one was a movie soundtrack.

"Lujon" did come from "Mr. Lucky," but not a movie. Believe it or not, this and some of the other cool jazz on this disk were from 1950s-era television shows. "Fallout" is the stock opening sequence music from "Peter Gunn," for instance. It played at the beginning of every half-hour show.

TV was where he started, but movies are where he ended. Mancini wrote many famous movie scores after the release of this 1965 collection - check out other sources for that. By John P Bernat
