		<title>James Bond 007 Thunderball Soundtrack - Cover, VG+</title>
		<link>http://www.koolkatjazz.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=31</link>
<description>If Goldfinger proved that the James Bond franchise was box office dynamite, 1965&apos;s Thunderball cemented the British super-spy&apos;s international appeal and further forged a set of pop culture cliches that both inspired and endured even Mike Meyer&apos;s modern, multi-chaptered Austin Powers spoofing. While Goldfinger also marked composer John Barry stamping his enduring influence on the series&apos; music, this fourth installment finds his big band and jazz-inspired arrangements pulsing with confidence, stripped down rhythmic tension and exotic elegance. Tom Jones follows up Shirley Bassey&apos;s previous larger-than-life title track performance with a worthy rival of his own, its dramatic, Barry-composed melody interpolated throughout the composer&apos;s masterful score. Songwriter Leslie Bricusse who co-wrote &quot;Goldfinger&quot; with Barry also returns, teaming with the composer on the emblematic &quot;Cafe Martinique&quot; and delightfully kitschy &quot;Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang&quot; originally intended as the film&apos;s Bassey sung theme song, but abandoned and replaced by the film&apos;s producers. This new, digitally remastered and expanded edition notably doubles the running time of the original album with selections that bristle with Barry&apos;s haunting string and wind arrangements, including two suites comprising 20-plus minutes of the film&apos;s concluding underwater intrigue. It&apos;s one of Bond&apos;s and Barry&apos;s best. Jerry McCulley

		<title>Chuck Mangione Concert &quot;Land of Make Belive&quot; - Mint</title>
		<link>http://www.koolkatjazz.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=36</link>
		<description>Mercury 822 539-2 LP NM
Though much less expansive than Mangione&apos;s other Mercury concerts (only 37 minutes on a single CD or LP), Land of Make Believe is the most successful of the lot, a winning combination of attractive tunes, big-thinking orchestrations, just enough jazz content, and a genuinely felt sense of idealism. Here there is no dead weight; all of the material is very engaging and the combined forces of Mangione&apos;s quartet and the Hamilton (Ontario) Philharmonic are on fire. The performance of Mangione&apos;s &quot;Legend of the One-Eyed Sailor&quot; still exerts a ferocious jolt of life-affirming energy, &quot;El Gato Triste&quot; is an attractive Latin number, and the buoyant &quot;Gloria&quot; from The Mass of St. Bernard with the Horsehead Chamber Singers makes one want to hear more. The childlike title tune has both a touching sense of naοvetι and a lot of drive in key spots -- credit expert drummer Joe LaBarbera with the latter -- and Esther Satterfield&apos;s clear-eyed Nancy Wilson-like vocals made her famous for a time. This would be Mangione&apos;s most irresistible attempt at embracing the whole world of music -- and for awhile, it was possible to believe that he would become a major unifying figure in American music. Alas, thus far this would be the last full flowering of that promise.
1. Legend Of The One-Eyed Sailor
2. Lullaby For Nancy Carol
3. El Gato Triste
4. The Gloria From The Mass Of
5. St. Bernard
6. As Long As We&apos;re Together
7. Land Of Make Believe

With The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra And Special Guest Vocalist Esther Satterfield.

		<title>Mike Douglas &quot;The Men in my Little Girl&apos;s Life&quot; - VG+</title>
		<link>http://www.koolkatjazz.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=37</link>
<description>Douglas was born in Chicago, Illinois, and began singing as a choirboy. By his teens he was working as a singer on a Lake Michigan dinner cruise ship. After serving briefly in the United States Navy near the end of World War II and as a &quot;staff singer&quot; for WMAQ-TV in Chicago, he moved to Los Angeles. There he became a vocalist in the big band of Kay Kyser, with whom he was featured on two notable hits, &quot;Ole [or Old] Buttermilk Sky&quot; in 1946 and &quot; The Old Lamplighter&quot; the following year. Kyser was responsible for giving him his show business name, and he remained part of Kyser&apos;s band until Kyser retired from show business in 1951.

In 1950, he provided the singing voice of Prince Charming in Walt Disney&apos;s Cinderella.

In the 1950s Douglas, living in Burbank, California, tried to keep his singing career going, working as house singer for a nightclub and going on the road to stay busy. He preferred not to switch to rock and roll, which limited his opportunities as big band music was declining in popularity. In the leanest years, he and his wife survived by successfully &quot;flipping&quot; their Los Angeles homes.

		<link>http://www.koolkatjazz.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=41</link>
		<description>Stonehenge - 1970
Album - Stormy Forest SFS-6001Richard P. Havens was born in Brooklyn, the eldest of nine children, and first started singing street corner doo-wop and performed with The McCrea Gospel Singers at 16. Havens&apos; initial rise to fame happened in the Greenwich Village folk-music scene that also fostered Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. In 1967, Havens became one of several Village-based artists signed to Verve Records, and released several albums to mostly local notice. In 1969, Havens opened the Woodstock Festival, although he was initially scheduled to appear fifth on the bill. His performance received continuous ovations and he kept playing encores until he ran out of songs. Finally, he decided to improvise a version of &quot;Motherless Child,&quot; to which he added a verse with the word &quot;freedom&quot; repeated over and over; the song was featured in the Woodstock film, and became an international hit.

		<title>Doors &quot;LA Woman&quot; - Cover (VG)</title>
		<link>http://www.koolkatjazz.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=46</link>
<description>Besides being heavy in their early days the Doors were funny too. Funnier than a fish. Who can ever forget those great Morrison ad libs like the one he once did during a lull in &quot;Gloria&quot; (&quot;Little girl how old are you, little girl what school do you go to, little girl suck my cock&quot;)&apos; He was an earnest drinker, which of course helped. Now he&apos;s drinking more than ever, hence there&apos;s some material basis for all the laughs. And since heaviness has been kicked in the ass of late all the kickers owe it to themselves to sit down with this one. There isn&apos;t one serious cut on the entire album.

Just consider the extent to which Jimbo&apos;s snake and lizard obsessions contributed to the wanton slaughter of zillions of members of the earth&apos;s reptile population for the sake of boots and belts. His influence on that and other fashion trends has to be considerable, an absurd fact considering how the man himself has been literally abandoned by the hippos of rock fandom during his darkest hours. Well now he&apos;s taking no chances about being taken seriously or with universal import. In fact he&apos;s not even writing his own snake lyrics anymore. Instead there&apos;s John Lee Hooker&apos;s &quot;Crawling King Snake,&quot; a whopper of a readymade and proof positive that he and his boys are still listening to the roots, even after the death of Al Wilson (don&apos;t forget that Canned Heat was once L.A.&apos;s number one comedy band). On it Morrison demonstrates his final grasp of all the vocal chicanery only hinted at in flashes on &quot;Love Street.&quot; Which means he&apos;s finally found complete security in caution-to-the-winds Hollywood lemonade singing, the mid-point between bubble gum and a good chance at being invited to sing an Oscar nomination at the 1972 Academy Awards.

And he&apos;s even a fair-to-middlin&apos; blues gomper because for the first time he honestly doesn&apos;t give a donut about how authentic or any of that the whole thing sounds. He was never actually Eric Burdon but his trans-racial bravado at least hinted at some intent in that direction. Now all the cards are on the table. Just check out &quot;Cars Hiss by My Window&quot; and compare it to the halfassed blues attempts of fellow Southern Californian Captain Beefheart and see who&apos;s got the greater vestige of potentially galling pretentiously indulgent self-esteem. (If you don&apos;t admit it&apos;s the noble Captain then you can&apos;t have much of a sense of either humor or fair play).

And what&apos;s more Jim&apos;s backup band has finally reduced its approach to one of ping-ponging the essential free-as-air spirit the man&apos;s been toying with ever since he abandoned Howlin&apos; Wolf for Mel Torme. In other words the Doors have never been more together, more like the Beach Boys, more like Love (the band they originally played second fiddle to at the Whiskey or the Troubador or wherever it was). So when it&apos;s Morrison setting the tone with lines like &quot; Why did you throw the jack of hearts away&apos;&quot; on &quot;Hyacinth House,&quot; it&apos;s Manzarek, Robbie and Densmore keeping the second-to-second ridiculousness going on and on with merry-go-round tirades of utter mere pleasantness straight out of Derek and the Dominoes with even some Kokomo-classical fancy stepping thrown in for good measure. In terms of what they&apos;re after here the Doors as a band never falter and there isn&apos;t one bummer cut on the entire album -- obviously a first for them.

It&apos;s also the first time since &quot; The End&quot; and &quot; When the Music&apos;s Over&quot; that they&apos;ve been able to pull off anything interesting in the way of long cuts. And there are two of them here, &quot;L.A. Woman&quot; (with maybe the best Chuck Berry riffs since the Stones and a hell of a lot more Sixties/Seventies American flavor) and &quot;Riders On The Storm&quot; (signaling the return to Dell Shannon from whence the Doors&apos; mysterioso-hood was largely derived to begin with), both of them minor monsters. And I&apos;ll be a monkey&apos;s uncle if &quot; The WASP (Texas Radio &amp; The Big Beat)&quot; doesn&apos;t showcase Morrison&apos;s finest command of spoken jive to date, far superior to &quot;Horse Latitudes&quot; and a demonstration of lyric-supporting timing at least the equal of George Burns in his prime.

You can kick me in the ass for saying this (I don&apos;t mind): this is the Doors&apos; greatest album and (including their first) the best album so far this year. A landmark worthy of dancing in the streets.

		<title>Earl Bostic &quot;The Best of Bostic&quot; - Cover, VG</title>
		<link>http://www.koolkatjazz.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=50</link>
		<description>LP KS-500 Blue King Label - Alto saxophonist Earl Bostic was a technical master of his instrument, yet remained somewhat underappreciated by jazz fans due to the string of simple, popular R&amp;B/jump blues hits he recorded during his heyday in the &apos;50s. In the early &apos;40s, he worked as an arranger and session musician, and began leading his own regular large group in 1945. Cutting back to a septet the next year, Bostic began recording regularly, scoring his first big hit with 1948&apos;s &quot;Temptation.&quot; He soon signed with the King label, the home of most of his biggest jukebox hits, which usually featured a driving, heavy, R&amp;B-ish beat and an alto sound that could be smooth and romantic or aggressive and bluesy. In 1951, Bostic landed a number one R&amp;B hit with &quot;Flamingo,&quot; plus another Top Ten in &quot;Sleep.&quot; Subsequent hits included &quot;You Go to My Head&quot; and &quot;Cherokee.&quot;

Costa, who was born in Boston, MA, on June 10, 1925, had some of his biggest successes with Paul Anka, including the singer&apos;s two number one hits, the million-sellers &quot;Diana&quot; (number one pop, number one R&amp;B for two weeks), and &quot;Lonely Boy&quot; (number one pop for four weeks, number six R&amp;B). Anka had won a trip to Manhattan after winning a soup wrapper collection contest from Campbell&apos;s Soup. After being enthralled with the city, Anka, a songwriter and aspiring recording artist, borrowed money from his father to return to the bustling music center.

His first stop was the offices of ABC-Paramount Records where he met with Costa. After listening to Anka&apos;s four songs, Costa told the teenager to send for his parents so that they could sign the recording contract. &quot;Diana&quot; and &quot;Lonely Boy&quot; were included on Paul Anka Sings His Big 15, which peaked at number four pop on Billboard&apos;s charts in summer 1960. After a long and successful career, Don Costa died in New York in 1983.

		<title>Lalo Schifrin &quot;Rock Requiem&quot; - Cover, VG</title>
		<link>http://www.koolkatjazz.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=59</link>
		<description>LP Verve V6-8801, 1971

A bizarrely baroque session -- one that&apos;s a requiem &quot;for the dead in the Southeast Asia war&quot;, and which takes the form of a hippy-dippy mass. Lalo&apos;s at the head of the group -- leading musical performances by the likes of Tom Scott, King Errison, Mike Melvoin, Howard Roberts, Dennis Budimir, Emil Richards, and other LA studio hipsters, as well as a vocal performance by the Mike Curb Congregation, and lead singer Alexander Saint Charles. The whole thing&apos;s a lot more gospel hip than rock, and it&apos;s really a lot more like the kind of album you&apos;d catch Galt MacDermot or David Axelrod recording than Schifrin. Titles include &quot;Final Prayer&quot;, &quot;Offertory Verse&quot;, &quot;Sanctus Benedictus&quot;, &quot;Agnus Dei&quot;, and &quot;Introit&quot;.

   1. Procession
   2. Introit
   3. Kyrie Eleison
   4. Gradual
   5. Tract
   6. Offertory Verse
   7. Sanctus Benedictus
   8. Agnus Dei
   9. Final Prayer

		<description>LP Columbia CL 1143
Remembered for his highly-commercial approach to pop music, Xavier Cugat (born: Francisco De Asis Javier Cugat Mingall De Cru Y Deulofeo) made an even greater mark as one of the pioneers of Latin-American dance music. During his eight decade long career, Cugat helped to popularize the tango, the cha-cha, the mambo and the rhumba. His hits included &quot;El Manicero&quot; in the 1930s, &quot;Perfida&quot; in 1940 and the original recording of &quot;Babalu&quot; in 1944. Members of Cugat&apos;s band included Desi Arnaz, Miguelito Valdes, Tito Rodriguez, Luis Del Campo, Yma Sumac and his third (of four) wife, Abbe Lane...

		<link>http://www.koolkatjazz.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=66</link>
		<description>LP Decca DL 74421, Cover has a small hole drilled Promo&apos;
Harpist Robert Maxwell&apos;s popularity surpassed that of Harpo Marx (at least as a harpist), and for good reason. He made many a great pop record without getting swallowed up by his classical training and performances. He was born in New York City, the son of unmusical parents. Taking up the harp at age ten, he won a Lincoln High School scholarship to the Juilliard School of Music, where he studied under Giannini and Grandjany. After joining the National Symphony Orchestra at age 17 (their youngest member), he gave solo recitals in New York and Los Angeles. Also in symphonic stints, he performed under the batons of Arturo Toscanini and Serge Koussevitsky.

		<link>http://www.koolkatjazz.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=67</link>
		<description>LP Epic BN 568 Stereo
Bandleader Sagle has a lot of fun with timbales. tamtams, glockenspiels, marimbas, etc., in a record clearly pitched to the neophyte stereo addict. For the most part, the fun is more in the studio than in the speaker, but in some of the more fanciful numbers; Make Love to Me, High Society the band crackles with a kind of auditory wit that suggests Spike Jones gone highbrow.

		<description>LP MGM E 4295 1965 Their Second Album!
Three Top Five hits, including the million-seller &quot;I&apos;m Henry VIII, I Am,&quot; a remake of the song that hit twice in 1957 for the Diamonds and the Rays, Bob Crewe&apos;s &quot;Silhouettes,&quot; and the lead-off track &quot; Can&apos;t You Hear My Heartbeat&quot; propel this album into rock history. Mickey Most&apos;s tremendous production of Peter Noone, the near country of &quot;Traveling Light,&quot; the cover of Skeeter Davis&apos; &quot; The End of the World&quot; her number two hit from 1963 and Barry Mann&apos;s wonderful &quot;I&apos;ll Never Dance Again&quot; all make for a highly listenable album created in a day when albums were secondary to hits. The genius of Mickey Most is that he packs the punch into all these songs in a solitary moment -- every one of them clocks in at three minutes and under. &quot;Silhouettes&quot; is three seconds shy of two minutes, &quot;I&apos;m Henry VIII, I Am&quot; an amazingly succinct one minute and 49 seconds. These are short little pop blasts you could really fit the 26 minutes on one side of a long-player and the young Peter Noone brings each melody home. His instincts are obvious, while the partnership of Noone and producer Most finds them very serious about their art. If the band was geared toward the teen market for the time, history has proven the validity of Herman&apos;s Hermits as a musical entity. Peter Noone tours relentlessly, performing each hit as if it was his first time in the studio with the song. 10CC&apos;s Graham Gouldman finds his &quot; For Your Love&quot; included here, prior to the Yardbirds hitting with it this same year. On other albums Herman&apos;s Hermits also performed Gouldman&apos;s &quot;Listen People,&quot; &quot; No Milk Today,&quot; and &quot;East West,&quot; all charting for Noone&apos;s group, as well as &quot;Bus Stop,&quot; which was a hit for the Hollies in 1966. That&apos;s certainly a hip legacy; add to that the fact that one of the original girl groups, Goldie &amp; the Gingerbreads featuring Genya Ravan (her birth name is Goldie) had a hit in Britain with &quot; Can&apos;t You Hear My Heartbeat&quot; only because their manager found it on Mickey Most&apos;s desk and, according to Noone, absconded with it prior to the Hermits recording, well, covert operations in the early days of the British Invasion makes for good copy. &quot;Henry VIII&quot; managed to get into the classic Ghost film with Patrick Swayze using it to drive Whoopi Goldberg crazy. In concert in the year 2000 and beyond, Noone&apos;s fans can&apos;t get enough of him repeating the second verse. It&apos;s the same as the first, and this album is precious pop by a vital artist. ~ Joe Viglione, All Music Guide

		<link>http://www.koolkatjazz.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=77</link>
		<description>LP Everest SDBR 3051
These recordings from 1960 feature Sir Malcolm Sargent (RCA Heifetz Scottish Fantasy) conducting the fabulous London Sympony on these Bert Whyte recordings at Walthamstow Assembly Hall in London - the same hall used extensively by the Decca and Kenneth Wilkinson. The performance is slower and more deliberate in tempo than the RCA Reiner performance yet ever bit as powerful. The 35mm sound which has a textural richness in the strings that is much more realistic than any other and with bass that is woofer busting in its power and detail.
Some writing on back of the cover.

		<title>John Lennon &amp; Yoko Ono &quot;Unfinished Music No. 2: - Cover None</title>
		<link>http://www.koolkatjazz.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=78</link>
		<description>Apple Stereo ST-3357 (Zapple)Cover Missing, Record Mint
Unfinished Music No.2: Life with the Lions is an experimental album released by John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1969 and the successor to 1968&apos;s highly controversial Unfinished Music No.1: Two Virgins. The title parodies the BBC radio drama Life with the Lyons, which had been a favourite of Lennon\&apos;s.

The album features an extended and improvised recording entitled &quot;Cambridge 1969&quot;, recorded on 2 March at Cambridge University, before a live audience. The piece consists of Yoko Ono&apos;s vocalizations accompanied by imaginative guitar feedback from John Lennon. Saxophonist John Tchicai and percussionist John Stevens join John and Yoko towards the end of the piece. The remainder of the album was recorded on a cassette tape in their suite at Queen Charlotte&apos;s Hospital in London during November 1968, where Yoko Ono would suffer the couple&apos;s first of three miscarriages. &quot; No Bed For Beatle John&quot; consists of John and Yoko setting press clippings about themselves to music in an acapella chant style. &quot;Baby&apos;s Heartbeat&quot; is in fact a crude recording of the ill-fated child&apos;s actual palpitations. This is followed &quot; Two Minutes Silence&quot; which is exactly what its title implies, not necessarily a nod to composer John Cage&apos;s 4&apos;33&quot;, but an aural picture of the actual miscarriage. The album closes with &quot;Radio Play&quot; which is nearly 13-minutes worth of radio static along with brief moments of John Lennon making phone calls in the background. Incidentally, The Beatles song &quot;Ob-La Di, Ob-La-Da&quot; comes through amidst the static on the radio during this recording.

The album&apos;s front cover photo was taken while Ono was bedridden at Queen Charlotte&apos;s with Lennon by her side, while the back cover was a news photo of Lennon and Ono leaving Marylebone Police Station, after their arrest for hashish possession on 18 October 1968. (The back also carried a &apos;quote&apos; from Beatles producer George Martin: &quot; No comment.&quot;)

Unfinished Music No.2: Life with the Lions failed to chart in the UK, but managed a #174 peak in the US; Lennon told the media later they\&apos;d sold about 60,000 copies in the States. (He and Ono were disappointed that Apple Records in the UK hadn&apos;t given any promotion to the album, or included it in any advertising.)

Unfinished Music No.2: Life with the Lions was initially released on the Apple Records subsidiary label, Zapple Records, but was reissued through Rykodisc in 1997 with two previously unreleased bonus tracks, &quot;Song For John&quot; and &quot;Mulberry&quot;. These two tracks stem from the Queen Charlotte Hospital recordings - the source for the second half of the LP.

Given the small issue it is unclear, outside of collectors, how many original albums (US and Japanese (cover and disc)) are still extant.

		<title>James Bond 007 &quot;Moonraker&quot; - Cover Sealed</title>
		<link>http://www.koolkatjazz.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=87</link>
<description>LP UA -LA971-I Sealed CopyHole punched in the cover.
espite Bond going up into space the soundtrack, at least, remains firmly on the ground. Mr. Barry returns to produce his ninth score for the series in a more laid-back style to compliment the film&apos;s style. Also back for another shot was Shirley Bassey, doing her third title theme for the series.

The main title is a much slower affair to usual... Ms Bassey doesn&apos;t even have to shout, and is in keeping with the trend set by the last film. The song is reprised in a more speedy, discoesque way over the end titles, in line with the music of the time.

&quot;Flight Into Space&quot; is perhaps the most haunting theme of this soundtrack, lasting for over six minutes, covering the whole journey between Drax&apos;s Amazonian lair and the Space Station. Almost as involved is &quot;Centrifuge And Corrine Put Down&quot; where Bond is nearly killed and Corrine is actually killed.

Other goodies include &quot;Space Lazer Battle&quot; and &quot;Bond Arrives In Rio And Boat Chase&quot;, the latter half of the latter song being a reprise of the &quot;007&quot; song, providing a small link between this most modern of Bonds and those of yesteryear.

Moonraker Original Motion Picture Soundtrack composed and conducted by John Barry. Title song written by Hal David and performed by Shirley Bassey.
1. Moonraker - Main Title 3:09

2. Space Lazer Battle 2:49

3. Miss Goodhead Meets Bond 2:48

4. Cable Car And Snake Fight 3:09

5. Bond Lured To Pyramid 2:06

6. Flight Into Space 6:32

7. Bond Arrives In Rio And Boat Chase 2:39

8. Centrifuge And Corrine Put Down 2:35

9. Bond Smells A Rat 2:25

10.Moonraker - End Title 2:28

J. Barry - H. David

Total length 30:40

		<title>Shelly Manne &quot;Boss Sounds&quot; - Cover Sealed</title>
		<link>http://www.koolkatjazz.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=89</link>
<description>LP Atlantic SD 1469 Stereo &quot;Sealed&quot;, Small hole in cover
Gate fold
Recorded at Shelly&apos;s Manne-Hole in 1966 for Atlantic Records
One of Shelly Manne&apos;s best records of the 1960s -- largely because the group&apos;s so great! Altoist Frank Strozier was playing with Shelly at the time, and his rich talents on the alto make the record almost worth seeking out for him alone -- because here, Strozier&apos;s opening up his sound a lot more than in the early days -- and going for strange phrasings, sharp edges, and other unusual twists that really add a lot more spice to the set than you might expect! The rest of the group features Conte Candoli, Russ Freeman, and Monty Budwig -- and in a way, the record takes off from the energy of Shelly&apos;s classic Blackhawk sessions, but with even a bit more tightly dynamic sound.
Titles include &quot;Frank&apos;s Tune&quot;, &quot;You Name It&quot;, &quot;Margie&quot;, and &quot;Idle One&quot;.

		<title>B.B. King &quot;Let Me Love You&quot; - Cover Sealed</title>
		<link>http://www.koolkatjazz.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=93</link>
<description>LP United Superior Records US-7734 Stereo, Sealed Copy
The faintly confusing Let Me Love You mixes up material from B.B. King&apos;s earliest RPM sessions with newer cuts from his Kent Records era. Much of the early RPM material has been released on other compilations, such as Do the Boogie!, while the more recent Kent material was issued on several classic LPs from the early &apos;60s. Nonetheless, the collection holds up rather well, since the songs all come from the same time period. It also helps that the set contains some real rarities, like the definitive blues of &quot;Troubles Don&apos;t Last&quot; and the rollicking, horn-driven &quot; You&apos;re Gonna Miss Me,&quot; both of which are only available on rare early-&apos;60s recordings. Mixed in with the hard-rocking &quot;Whole Lotta Love&quot; and the classic title cut, they make for a fairly seamless disc. Still, the haphazard sequencing and selection (coupled with the absence of much documentation) make this an odd album. Let Me Love You, while containing some rare and recommended B.B. King cuts, is more of a package for King collectors and blues enthusiasts, and newcomers would be advised to start with other, more definitive compilations and recordings. ~ Victor W. Valdivia, All Music Guide

<description>LP Columbia CL 942Day by Day was a Doris Day album released by Columbia Records on December 17, 1956. The title is an obvious pun, both meaning &quot;on a daily basis&quot; (as implied in the song title) and &quot;(Doris) Day, in the daytime&quot; (and thus leading to a later album entitled Day by Night). The album was issued as Columbia catalog CL-942.

		<title>Ringo &quot;The 4th&quot; - Cover Sealed</title>
		<link>http://www.koolkatjazz.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=100</link>
<description>LP Atlantic SD 19108 1977 Sealed Cover, right lower corner cut
Ringo The 4th is an album by Ringo Starr and was released in 1977. Commonly regarded as his least popular album (and perhaps the least-favored solo Beatles release), Ringo The 4th caught Starr at the nadir of his recording career.

After the commercial failure of Ringo&apos;s Rotogravure (1976), Starr decided to shift his formula of using his well-known musician friends (notably his fellow ex-Beatles) to write songs and appear on his albums. Instead, he intensified his partnership with Vini Poncia, with whom he wrote several of the songs featured here, while using the input of different musicians. David Foster played keyboards on a couple of songs, while Melissa Manchester and Bette Midler occasionally appeared on backing vocals. By reducing the input of his usual celebrity friends, the limelight is aimed more squarely on Starr and the results are far from satisfying.
   1. &quot;Drowning In The Sea Of Love&quot; (Kenny Gamble/Leon Huff) 5:09
   2. &quot;Tango All Night&quot; (Tom Seufert/Steve Hague) 2:58
   3. &quot;Wings&quot; (Richard Starkey/Vini Poncia) 3:26
   4. &quot;Gave It All Up&quot; (Richard Starkey/Vini Poncia) 4:41
   5. &quot;Out On The Streets&quot; (Richard Starkey/Vini Poncia) 4:29
   6. &quot;Can She Do It Like She Dances&quot; (Steve Duboff/Gerry Robinson) 3:12
   7. &quot;Sneaking Sally Through The Alley&quot; (Allen Toussaint) 4:17
   8. &quot;It&apos;s No Secret&quot; (Richard Starkey/Vini Poncia) 3:42
   9. &quot;Gypsies In Flight&quot; (Richard Starkey/Vini Poncia) 3:02
  10. &quot;Simple Love Song&quot; (Richard Starkey/Vini Poncia) 2:57

		<title>Paul McCartney &quot;Choba B CCCP&quot; - VG+</title>
		<link>http://www.koolkatjazz.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=101</link>
<description>LP MPL A60 00415 006 CCCPCHOBA B CCCP (English: Back in the USSR or The Russian Album) is an album of rock \&apos;n\&apos; roll oldies by Paul McCartney originally released in 1988 exclusively in the USSR. With the addition of an extra track, the album would see international release in 1991.

Following the tepid reaction to his 1986 studio album Press to Play, McCartney spent much of the first half of 1987 plotting his next album. In July, he got the urge to get back to his roots by singing some of his favorite hits from the 1950s and over the course of two days, with three other session musicians, McCartney recorded sixteen songs, thirteen of which would be chosen for the eventual album release in the USSR the following year.

The title CHOBA B CCCP translates from Russian to English as \&quot;Back in the USSR\&quot; - a famous McCartney song from The Beatles\&apos; 1968 double album The Beatles (also known as the White Album). The title is often taken as if written in Roman letters (i.e. CHOBA B CCCP), but they are actually Cyrillic letters and transliterate as \&apos;Snova v SSSR\&apos;; the Russian pronunciation is roughly snova vess-ess-ess-air.

During the recording sessions 16 songs were recorded, but only 14 were put on the album. The two songs not used were \&quot;I Saw Her Standing There\&quot; (the Beatles song) and \&quot;It\&apos;s Now or Never\&quot;. The latter would eventually be released on the New Musical Express double-LP/CD \&quot;The Last Temptation Of Elvis\&quot; in England in February of 1990.

The Russian album includes liner notes all in Russian, from original text by Roy Carr of the New Musical Express.

The cover of the album was designed by Linda McCartney: Paul\&apos;s photograph in a red star, the USSR\&apos;s symbol.

		<title>Frank Sinatra &quot;My Way&quot; - Cover Mint</title>
		<link>http://www.koolkatjazz.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=102</link>
		<description>LP Reprise 1029 Stereo 1969.
As the &apos;60s drew to a close, Sinatra became increasingly amenable to recording songs from the contemporary pop and rock canon. Whether he was responding to commercial pressures, or just trying to prove that he could still be hip in the Age of Aquarius, remains the subject of much debate; in any case, My Way is probably the best of his late-&apos;60s pop efforts. For one thing, it includes the title track, a veritable Sinatra classic; for another, it contains impressive stabs at Ray Charles&apos;s &quot;Hallelujah, I Love Her So,&quot; The Beatles&apos; &quot;Yesterday,&quot; and Jacques Brel&apos;s &quot; If You Go Away&quot; (the Chairman fares less well on Stevie Wonder&apos;s &quot; For Once in My Life&quot; and Simon and Garfunkel&apos;s &quot;Mrs. Robinson&quot;). Uneven, certainly, but well worth getting. --Dan Epstein

		<title>The Brains &quot;The Brains&quot; - Cover VG</title>
		<link>http://www.koolkatjazz.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=104</link>
<description>LP Mercury SRM-I-3835 Stereo promo with cut corner The Brains

Speaking of Cyndi Lauper, her first solo record contains a cover The Brains &quot;Money Changes Everything&quot;. Tom Gray, who led the Atlanta band, wrote the song and also spent some time writing additional songs with Cyndi. Later she recorded &quot; The Faraway Nearby&quot; for the &quot;True Colors&quot; LP, and &quot;A Part Hate&quot; for &quot;Hatful of Stars.&quot; All Music has an excellent review of both artist&apos;s interpretations of the song.

&quot;Money Changes Everything&quot; originally appeared on an independent single and was later rerecorded and produced by Steve Lillywhite for the Brains self-titled Mercury Records major label debut album in 1980. The Brains released a second album on Mercury in 1981. The band suffered from the usual major label malaise, released an independent E.P. the following year and fell away into obscurity. My thanks to Tom Gray for letting me post his music.
