London International Stereo 1962 It is difficult to come up with another superlative for Caterina, but here goes: Delightful! Silvio Francesco (Caterina's brother) joins her in the first album: German Evergreens. The musicianship of Caterina and Silvio is exemplary -- if we only had musicians like this today -- their voices are beautiful and blend perfectly. All of the choral work for the album was recorded individually by Caterina and Silvio and then overdubbed -- a feat in itself for an album recorded in 1961! Even if you only have a smattering of German, you will be able to enjoy these "evergreens". The material is first rate and includes: "Kuss mich", "Sag beim Abschied leise Servus", and my favorite: "Musik! Musik! Musik!" that includes an incredible modulation toward the close of the song. Heinz Kiessling leads the orchestra in a delightful, happy, lyric performance. The album could be subtitled: "German Hits from the 20s and 30s". Composers Grothe, Kreuder and von Pinelli are all represented. In my humble opinion, this is simply the best of Caterina's German recordings. It also makes one yearn for more of Silvio Francesco, an artist in his own right. The sound on this disc is gorgeous -- full, with that wonderful early stereo quality. By Steven Keller Side 1. 1.
