Verve Records Mono 1965
On this release, Astrud teams with a group of excellent musicians, including Bud Shank on flute. The arrangements are by Marty Paich, one of the most talented of his generation. There's an expression about "preaching to the choir." So, if you don't want to be a member of this choir, there's always Tom Waits or Bob Dylan singing holiday favorites. I say this because these voices are the antithesis of her voice. If you want to bask in the beauty of the human voice, one with the inherent innocense of a child with no sense of guile, you might consider this. Certainly, there's plenty of room for Linda Ronstadt belting a rock tune. But, the music on this album is intended to stir a calm appreciation of beauty and emotion, like an impressionist work of art with a nice rhythm track. I highly recommend this album. For those who are interested, there's a youtube video ca 1965 of Astrud Gilberto singing one of the songs from this LP, Agua De Beber, and it is exquisite in its presentation and simplicity.
